Kingsley Elementary 1st Grader Wins Waterloo RAGBRAI Coloring Contest
Kendra Finch will go on to the state-wide contest with a chance to win $350 WATERLOO, IOWA (June 15, 2010) - Kendra Finch is the winner of the Waterloo RAGBRAI coloring contest. She just completed 1st grade at Kingsley Elementary in Waterloo. Her artwork was a watercolor showing a person riding a bike along our Cedar Valley trails. Kendra’s picture will be entered into the statewide contest with a chance to win $350. The Waterloo RAGBRAI coloring contest was implemented through the Waterloo Community School District, the YMCA after-school program, the YWCA after-school program and also the Boys and Girls Club. The contest was open to all K-5 graders to enter. The Waterloo RAGBRAI theme, Happy Trails through Waterloo had to be represented in their artwork. Artwork could be a drawing, a painting or a sculpture. It couldn’t be any larger than 11” x 14”. 
RAGBRAI®, The Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa®, is an annual seven-day bicycle ride across the state. Heading into its 38th year, RAGBRAI is the oldest, largest and longest bicycle touring event in the world. RAGBRAI is held annually the last full week of July. Riders start by dipping their back tire in the Missouri River and end with dipping their front tire in Mississippi River. This year’s event will end in Dubuque on Saturday, July 31, 2010 in the Port of Dubuque. RAGBRAI® Fast Facts Sheet - Participants come from all 50 states and many foreign countries
- Started in 1973 as a six day ride across the state by two Des Moines Register columnists
- Averages 472 miles per year on the ride
- They have visited 780 Iowa towns in their 37 year existence and all 99 counties
