Phelp's Youth Pavilion Opening
Phelps Youth Pavilion News: The Pavilion will be open to the public April 5 & 6. Waterloo, IA –

The most amazing, interactive fun you could imagine has just arrived in your backyard. No longer will you have to travel to Chicago, St. Louis, or Minneapolis to visit an impressive family and children’s museum.

The new Phelps Youth Pavilion at the Waterloo Center for the Arts is hosting its first group of student tours this week and will celebrate with the public during its official Grand Opening weekend on April 5 & 6.

The opening of the Phelps Youth Pavilion is a dream on the drawing board for more than a decade, but it is now a reality and will soon be filled with children and families creating amazing art experiences. From simple painting projects to magical high-tech adventures, the one-of-a-kind exhibits at the Phelps Youth Pavilion will fascinate kids and adults alike. Among the exhibits are an interactive tractor where visitors can hop on and virtually drive through a Grant Wood painting, a cow that kids can learn how to milk, a hay loft slide kids can go down in Grant’s Barn, a Tap-Tap taxi that will give visitors the experience of riding down the bumpy streets of Haiti, a time machine that will take visitors to experience prehistoric times, and many more unique hands-on exhibits!

Additionally, the Center now features a new permanent collection gallery with expanded exhibition space, an Education Wing with a Ceramics Studio, Visual Arts Studio, Digital Arts Lab, Art’s Workshop, a storefront Gift Store, the ArtHouse Café and collection management facilities to properly handle an art collection that has completely outgrown its storage and handling space.

A special bonus peak at the Pavilion will be held at the Waterloo Center for the Arts during Spring Break week, March 18-20. Workshops “Gettin’ Medieval” for ages 9-12 and “Spring Break Blowout” for ages 13-16 will feature three days of explosive fun drawing, painting, sculpting, taking photos, and having fun inside the Phelps Youth Pavilion. Reservations are required; call 291-4490 to sign up today! And don’t forget to check out www.phelpsyouthpavilion.org for a sneak peak at what the Pavilion has to offer and to learn how you can get unlimited access to the Pavilion for an entire year with a Phelps Youth Pavilion Passport.

So mark your calendars for April 5 & 6 for the Phelps Youth Pavilion Grand Opening weekend because you won't want to miss special $1 admission, gifts to the first 100 guests each day, prize giveaways throughout the weekend, photos with Art, and, of course, hours of interactive fun with all of the exhibits! The Waterloo Center for the Arts works in partnership with the community to build a stronger appreciation for the arts and to provide cultural experiences for people of all ages.
